failure

a decisive step,

in which Life
becomes greater,

is the establishment
of failure as
The Way.

. . . . . . . .

Today's OED word of the day for the poem|commentary is 'Rubicon.'

How do you make such a seemingly straightforward sketch so fun? Now I want to leave and go have coffee.

Haha! This was second one on Bainbridge when I didn't have enough time, AND did the initial with ink vs. tentative pencil, AND only had time to paint the (contrasting) pieces that made a difference. I've learned these lessons 100 times, and yet...

This is beautiful. I love your intense colors...what does OED mean?

Thanks, Gail! Have you gone shopping for new blue paint yet!?

OED is the Oxford English Dictionary. Their word of the day, with citations going back 1000 years, is pretty entertaining: http://www.oed.com/cgi/display/wotd
The erasure poetry is a 'found poem' technique I learned at Seattle Center for Book Arts; you just delete words til you get down to ones you want.

I loved this sketch in it's original form ... the cropping makes it even better!

Perhaps, Ann, a Shakespearian riff? "There is nothing either good or bad, but cropping makes it so" ??!?!

I did get the paint but I got it in the stick form because they were out of it in tube form. I love your new paintings.

Thanks, Gail! Can't wait to hear how you fare with the stick. I think you'll definitely be able to get the intensity you were looking for with it. Post one on Urban Sketchers soon, please! Always love seeing your great sketches...

Susan,
I have a new blogsite. http://glwsketchworks.blogspot.com/
Check it out. But I will post my latest from the Japanese Tea Garden on the Seattle Blog spot too. I think I have to get over the fear of too much color cause I still had to go over later and add value. By the way Daniel Smith had new watercolor tablet by Fabriano. 75 sheets 300gsm for about 24.00. I think regular price is 67.00. The guy who sold me the stick said it was the best deal they have in terms of watercolor. Pure pigment and some gum. He said it is worth about 2 x the tube. I think I might have been talking to Daniel Smith himself kind of looked like him.
