in a great hurry

Apparently
an imperative,
to be
in a great hurry is

Life

Be quick
& Wait,
and Leaning towards Infinity,
run out again

Why are we always running?

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is 'quicksticks.'

It would be interesting to keep track of every time the Blogger's 21st century American English spellchecker flags the OED word of the day. 'Quicksticks,' of course, definitely alarms it! :)

French wine on the terrace

To piece together
a Life of Grace
& Common Sense

Autumn —
Watching rain

With the sun

a big noise

"Pleep!"

The OED word of the day is that piece of bird talk, so today’s "poem" comes from a neighborhood toddler.

Last evening I dropped a heavy bag into an empty recycling bin and started to walk away, only to hear behind me a small excited voice shout:

“Mommy! That was a big noise! It scared my whole body!”

everyday life

food trucks, Seattle
practicing The way
is all —
living and
Translating The answer
to turn
everyday life
into a force

. . . . . . . .

Today's OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is 'Stepford.' I can't believe I whined about the string of dessert words.

Happy equinox to all (we encourage a celebratory meal of pizza and prosecco), even if this morning in Seattle feels like "summer in Tennessee," according to my barista.

the Path

It is not black and white
It is the Path
Face the music?
beautifully!

To revolt
One needs the poem

failure
is permeated with
a precision-tooled ending

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is 'Hollywood.'

About a half-hour into collaging the little color squares on this, I had an OMG moment and metaphorically hit myself in the forehead: last night I'd watched a DVD on Paul Klee. The subconscious is scary.

pussycat

September is
such a pussycat
it walked with
an almost comic air
of authority
And made
October bold

. . . . . . . .

I'll be the first to say it's an odd poem, but the OED - continuing with its "film character week" theme - gave us "Ramboesque" as the word of the day. Enough said.

In a collage workshop earlier this week, I created this one, unusually - for me - on canvas board. (Yes, Andrea, you can click it for a larger image!)

a secret

we try to be original,
to discover a secret
it doesn't matter what it is.

Art doesn't care

First it was desserts, now the Oxford lads are on a film kick. The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is McGuffin.

differing perspectives

differing perspectives
give depth
to the picture

in effect: the truth
is never quite the same
to different people

memories gleaming

toddle

In the Morning
the taste of Life was great,
& I lay there
in something of a trance,
and I suppose that's okay

in The Feng Shui
for Modern Living
the thing to do, On Sunday,
is to toddle.
Calmly and constructively.
Close to home.

I don't need abundant rules—
Just an O.K. from the gods

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is 'OK. ' Surprisingly confusing origin, with arguments made for Scottish, Choctaw, French and West African.

Today was Buskers' Festival at Pike Place Market. Glad the skies cleared for them.

foghorn

september morning —
a foghorn startles the tea
right out of my cup

. . . . . . .

This is my first acrylic painting ever, done in a 4-hour mini class at Pratt last evening. It was quite liberating after watercolor, being able to go back and add white and lights... and finger paint!

forgiveness

forgiveness does
comfort and instruct,
and in a short time
heal the soul

The need
is commonly denied
but in Forgiveness

to Hope

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is 'civil service.'

The quick sketch is of some ladies quilting at The Puyallup Fair. Their equivalent to Urban Sketchers!

The pinkish red is NOT raspberry jam from an official Fisher fair scone.

different and opposite

two different

one shivering thought

I warn
the Reader
of the Enthusiasm
To clothe one
shivering thought
in a hundred
thousand garments

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is 'wordmonger.'

Today at Fishermen's Terminal, a guy working on the boat nearest me strolled over to check out what I was doing. "Oh, nice - kind of a collage, huh?" he said with a distinctly East Coast accent. Glad he said something before I did, which would have clued him into the fact that I had assumed the word 'collage' would not be in a fisherman's vocabulary. My [stereotyping] bad.

At the present time,

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is one after my own heart: 'cruciverbalist.' That would be a crossword puzzle enthusiast.
