plain words

Plain Words
on a circuitous
journey through
the great whirl of
human imagination,

tantalized
by the impossible
view of a rare Evening
in October,

Poems,
if graceful,
deliver an elegant little
punch
in The hush of the Evening

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is 'roundabout.'

discovery

one is in the middle
of a river of
Discovery
living to improve
our understanding of flow

reflection,
Even if curmudgeonly,
is of benefit

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is 'riparian.'

This bus was in service in 1959 through the early 70s. Yesterday it was one of six in service as part of the yearly vintage bus tour to view autumn color. Best $5 deal around!

forgiveness

forgiveness does
comfort and instruct,
and in a short time
heal the soul

The need
is commonly denied
but in Forgiveness
is a Genius,
and the daring
to Hope

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is 'absolution.'

stealing the spotlight

i myself
have missed You,
Summer.

September
At the present time,
is stealing
the spotlight

But There is
no contest.

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is one after my own heart: 'cruciverbalist.' That would be a crossword puzzle enthusiast.

for Debbie

the way to Love
is invariably found

there was a Secret
to its permanency

As one might expect,
on such a day
as this,
The Essence
leaps upon me
and devours my heart

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day is 'crimp.'

The erasure poem is offered in memory of Debbie Numoto.

The unused OED word of the day is 'maggotorium.' I am SO not going there.

Abracadabra!

Ars Poeticathere is some secret to heal in Verses
the endeavoring to decipher
the remarkable words of the Poet,
and at that moment seeing
just how much power
Art can have—
Abracadabra! The door's open

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is 'abracadabra.'

amazing flour!

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem| commentary is 'table-tennis.'

What started as a silly pun, turns out to be a scientific fact! Flour made from sunflower seeds is almost the richest source of iron in the world (second only to brewer's yeast). Go forth and grind.

the Daily Post
permitted man
to indulge in
that amusement
known as

‘I had planned to…

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem|commentary is the verb 'rotten-egg.' One can guess where the Oxford lads were aiming :)

No, this is not a figment of my imagination! Full credit to Suzanne Tidwell and her delightful installation "Tree Sweaters" in Occidental Square Park in Seattle.

The unused OED word of the day is chimichanga; nice to eat, not much to poetize with. So, thanks to my brother for the gift/poetic inspiration!

Soliloquy —

soon show you
what's what

hard hat area

nesting blackbirds —
the path along the river now
a hard hat area

. . . . . . . .

First the crows in Seattle, now the blackbirds in Bend; the dive-bombing continues.

The sketch is obviously not a blackbird, but rather a kite, which is a much bigger threat to baby birds than I am. Just saying.

thunderstorm

late night
thunderstorm —

the summer-slow river
illuminated

. . . . . . . .

The unusable OED word of the day is roynish, as in scabby, rough skin. Didn't need to know that one.
