pas de deux

as quite beautiful

A pas -de -deux

. . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem | commentary is 'pas de deux.'

The Seattle and Whidbey Island Urban Sketchers were allowed into the Central Library 90 minutes before normal opening time to sketch. We later applauded loudly as Gabi gave a reading of 'The Art of Urban Sketching' to a packed auditorium.

The building structure's collage elements are cut from the Library's Teen Reading recommendation brochures (e.g. "Everyone knows that high school is hell.")

The OED word of the day is 'obmutescence,' which is the state of being (willfully) speechless. So, with my newly expanded vocabulary, I can say that today the Oxford lads left me obmutescent.

Cadillac Hotel

The OED word of the day is 'britten,' which was only used in Old English and the citations are now, therefore, unreadable.

So, for your reading pleasure today I offer this brief history of the Cadillac Hotel (3.2M PDF), which includes some great old photos, courtesy of Historic Seattle - and some rather shocking ones after the 2001 earthquake, when this 1889 Victorian Italianate building nearly got demolished.

So... if you get an extension, the poem can be 22 syllables? :)  Good luck with the IRS to one and all.

By My Window about
To collect eggs

. . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem |commetary is 'oologize,' which a Mr. Lowell used twice in one book in 1870. It means to take eggs (from a bird's nest).

It's kind of a cool neologism by Mr. L and with a crow's nest straight across from my window that I'm watching, I quite enjoyed it.

The collage (in process) is an homage to an Atget photo of Place St.-Andre-des-Arts about the time that Picasso and Braque decided to glue paper to a painting for the first time.
