intention

intention increasing energy;
a day with others
out doing Art

. . . . . . . .

The OED Olympic word of the day for the erasure poem | commentary is 'carbo-load.'

Sketch is from the most unique Urban Sketchers outing yet: a workshop at the Washington Corrections Center for Women. It was cool to give them some (water)color in their sea of gray, and to hear a couple of women say that, for a couple of hours, 'I wasn't here.'

shrugs

Light mockery;
you must practice the shrugs which the French
delight in

. . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure commentary is 'persiflage.' No light mockery or shrugs on Sunday, when Gabi Campanario did a reading and many Urban sketchers in the audience were sketching the Seattle Sketcher.

pas de deux

the Art
struck me
as quite beautiful

A pas -de -deux
of passion and design

. . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem | commentary is 'pas de deux.'

The Seattle and Whidbey Island Urban Sketchers were allowed into the Central Library 90 minutes before normal opening time to sketch. We later applauded loudly as Gabi gave a reading of 'The Art of Urban Sketching' to a packed auditorium.

The building structure's collage elements are cut from the Library's Teen Reading recommendation brochures (e.g. "Everyone knows that high school is hell.")

delight

delight

attention echoed
through triumphant
moments

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem | commentary is 'wahoo.'

The cupcake honors Mr. Frank Bettendorf of Mt. Vernon. My fellow Seattle Urban Sketcher will be celebrating his 79th birthday tomorrow, and I offer a deep bow to his joy-filled enthusiastic spirit. On most third Sundays, I think he's the youngest of our group. Wahoo!!

Suspiciously Simple

Art
may be Suspiciously
Simple

with a power
used mainly for
Discovery

& Harmony
which is rose-hued

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day for the erasure poem | commentary is 'piston.'

Yesterday the Seattle Urban Sketchers were out in force to sketch around Saint Spiridon Orthodox Cathedral and the headquarters of REI, which was having a big sale that shut down streets and generated a lot of curious foot traffic:

"Is this an art class?"
"What are you guys DOing??"

a vivid dash of color

a vivid dash of color
and an emphasis on
freedom
and spontaneity
is the Language of Painting,
and Life,
a reflection of
Every brave ambition
you wish to see

. . . . . . . .

The OED word of the day is 'tache.' Turns out there is a style of painting called tachisme, based on blotches or spots of color. My oh my, the things the Oxford boys teach me.

Today the Seattle Urban Sketchers met at the Elliott Bay Footbridge. Who knew it would be such a great location? Kudos to our organizer Gail Wong. This view of it was done on a copy of a 1912 map of Seattle (click on the image to see a larger view).
